The Sales Funnel: What is it?

A marketing funnel is not an actual funnel. The reason for using the word "funnel" for this marketing concept is simply to help visualize and explain a sales process from the beginning to the end. The term funnel is a term utilized to define the sales process due to its more extensive entry point for "Unqualified Prospects", and a smaller opening for converts in the lower part of the funnel.

We may call these "unqualified prospects" at the top or entry of the funnel. They are those who may require your services or products, but have not been contacted by you before. At the end of the funnel, a number of offers and sales actions after, you've received people who have purchased the product or service you offer and have made purchases as well.

Another reason why the idea of a lead generation funnel works is because it allows you to track your prospects' actions at different stages of the sales process. With the sales funnel, by figuring out the quantity of qualified prospects throughout the process, it's possible to anticipate the number of prospective customers who'll, after a while, become actual customers.

A sales funnel will allow you to determine exactly how is going on and how your sales process is failing or working, or if your campaign isn't getting enough potential customers at any point within the process. This will help you to determine where to focus your efforts to help reach your goals in marketing. It is used to gauge and manage the sales process of customers.

The Sales Funnel Top - Front - End

Your top sales funnel is the most active and most important area in your sales process. It is constantly tested. Your imagination and resources will limit the number of front-end strategies you can create.

The primary goal is to get new clients and convert them to buyers.

Once a prospective client decides to sign up for your offer, they become "qualified". This is the point in the sales funnel where the potential client or "Unqualified prospect" becomes a qualified leads because they have taken actions that show that they are interested enough to purchase your product.

For your front-end to be efficient, you need to bring specific traffic to your site, blog, or squeeze pages. Article marketing, PPC ads, social media (Google+ Twitter, Facebook, YouTube), banners and blogging are the best ways and tools to accomplish this.

There are a variety of tools available to "qualify" the "Unqualified Prospect". A squeeze page is one of the most effective ways to "qualify" the unqualified prospect. It lets you provide something valuable that is relevant to your product or services, that customers can get for free or at a greatly reduced cost by requesting their email address. The products offered include newsletters as well video ebooks, eBooks, email courses and related reports.

This shows that people are drawn to your sales channel at the front. The back-end is what we should be focusing on.

The Bottom of The Funnel: The Back-End

The bottom or back end of the funnel where main profit and sales are made. You will usually find the more expensive products in this area. They are all suitable for the same market, but they are delivered in different formats, like audio, video and live interactions.

The major difference between the front and back-ends is in the kind of client and the price of the product/service being provided.

It's true that only a small percent, say 1-2% of the overall number of folks who enter your front end, will be at the back end. Since a small portion of people invest more, that's fine.

It is evident that, although front-end products and services may be priced at less than $100, back-end products and services typically cost in the 100s or 1000's. This means that the lowest end of the sales channel which is also called the back-end is the primary source of income.

As I mentioned earlier the sales funnel could be as straightforward or complicated as your imagination or resources allow.
